Maddie's First 5 Months at META
Published on by Madeleine Fischer
Well, as they say, "time flies by when you're having fun!"
It certainly doesn't feel like 5 months since I started working at META, I remember my first day like it was yesterday (I was absolutely bricking it!), I received a very friendly and warm welcome from the META team. I was gifted a personalised notebook, a thoughtful handwritten card from everyone and last but certainly not least, sweets. The perfect welcome package I'd say!
I was thrown in the deep end right from the start with plenty to learn and get to grips with, but I wouldn't have it any other way. It was the best way for me to fully submerge myself in the crazy world of Digital Marketing. I wanted a challenge from my new job and a challenge was definitely what I was given - I love it!
Discovering My Apprenticeship
To be perfectly honest, when I left sixth form, I had no clue what I wanted to do. At that time, I had a part time job working in a local salon which turned full time when I left sixth form. Whilst I loved chatting (one of my proudest talents!) and socialising all day with clients, I knew that it wasn't much in the way of a career prospect for me.
I've always loved working and going to university wasn't really for me, so when I found META had an advert for a Digital Marketing apprenticeship, it seemed like the perfect match for me, especially with the dynamic nature of the industry and the fact that there is, and always will be, plenty to learn.
My Time At META
I've loved working at META and five months on I've seen a clear improvement in my knowledge and even my confidence of taking on tasks with little to no insight. As I go on, I am given more and more responsibility – giving me a taste of higher-level responsibility in the hope that one day I could potentially be managing clients.
As a fairly creative person, I really love writing blog posts for the different clients and learning about each of their industries whilst I write! I love that I have the opportunity to do something a little different most days when doing work for META's various clients.
What Have I Learnt So Far
Well, asides from the fact that Gareth will never refuse a tea refill, knowing to never leave my computer unlocked if I don't want Dan or Beckie to sabotage it, and never asking for a drink from Chloé and Amy unless I want an interesting concoction… a fair bit!
There is so much to learn within the industry from SEO and PPC to SMO and PR, I've had plenty to be working on and learning within META as well as at the QA apprenticeship college. I've found it really interesting to work with the specialists of the different fields in our team to thoroughly explore each service META offers and how they help our clients to grow their online presence and to soak up their expertise knowledge.
It's daunting to think about where I'll be in a few years, but I definitely see myself pursuing a career in Digital Marketing. But for now, I'm concentrating on doing all the work to actually achieve my qualifications in Digital Marketing.
I'm excited to finish my apprenticeship and dive into more exciting things.
See you on my next blog post!
